For motion sickness—although it sounds strange, both the eating of salted plums (umeboshi) and the placing of one taped on the navel are beneficial in treating this condition.
Pancreas/Spleen
The pancreas is a large gland situated at the back of the abdominal cavity, behind the stomach and between the duodenum and the spleen. The pancreas has two functions. It produces various enzymes necessary for digestion and it produces hormones which are released into the bloodstream. These include insulin and glucogon, which are essential to normal carbohydrate metabolism, as well as newly discovered hormones related to digestion.
In traditional Chinese medicine, the functions of both the pancreas and the spleen are considered as one system. That is why we have grouped pancreas and spleen together here.
The spleen is an organ also lying within the abdominal cavity. It is situated under the edge of the ribs on the left side. Its size and shape are about the same as your cupped hand. The spleen is the largest organ in the lymphatic system, which includes the lymph nodes located throughout the body. Blood flows through the spleen where blood-cleansing cells are located. Old blood cells, abnormal cells, and foreign particles in the blood are removed from circulation here. Blood flow leaves the spleen and continues on to the liver.
The spleen also plays an important role in the production of antibodies, which are part of the body's resistance to infection.
